Hundreds of millions of iPhone and iPad users at are risk after hackers embedded malicious codes in China’s most popular mobile apps – the first large-scale attack on the iOS App Store.
The security breach took place after hackers convinced legitimate developers to use a tainted and counterfeit version of Xcode – the software provided by Apple for creating iOS and Mac apps.
It is the first reported case of large numbers of malicious software programs making their way past Apple’s stringent app review process. Prior to this attack, only five malicious apps had ever been found in the App Store, according to cyber security firm Palo Alto Networks Inc.
